Legal Help for Immigration

Immigration itself is a complex term, and the process involved in it is even more complicated! There is no denying that learning about the procedures that let one make an altogether new country his new home is indeed a complex process. In an attempt to make such a process successful for you, it is very important to learn and get well versed with the basics, as is well known. And in most cases proper guidance at initial stage, and sometimes throughout the process is just inescapable.

As we are talking about immigration here in particular, let us tell you it is such a field where legal expertise alongside a person who intend toimmigrate to a new country is integral. Immigration is basically a process that involves lots of legal rules and regulations, which is why it becomes very important for one to seek legal help from experts or lawyers.

If you are shortly planning to immigrate, we recommend you to seek the guidance an immigration lawyer or attorney. However, at the initial stage of the planning you may require the help of an immigration consultant the most. A consultant plays the most ...

Smuggler’s Paradise – Iran Sanctions G...

The West's sanctions against Iran have made it harder for people there to get their hands on various luxury goods. But, for the inhabitants of a tiny Omani port just across the Strait of Hormuz, the sanctions have been a goldmine.

Arwind would prefer not to be called a smuggler, or to give his full name. Rather, he insists, he runs an import-export business specializing in synthetic leather shoes from China, wedding dresses, fabrics and satellite receivers. But he also likes to trade in refrigerators, auto parts and Coca-Cola. Indeed, the polite 39-year-old Indian says his business is about "whatever Iran needs at the moment." And lots of things are needed in Iran now, particularly due to the sanctions that have been imposed and the resulting paucity of trade between Iran and the West. Indeed, the trade restrictions are soon to become even tougher.

Arwind is sitting in a shack behind his storage area writing in a thick, blue order book. With 150 clients to serve and business booming, there's plenty of bookkeeping to do. He worked his way up from selling contraband cigarettes to running a real company. Behind his storage ...

Australia: Politician Sprayed over Migrant Deodora...

There has been a contest for the worst pun following remarks by Teresa Gambaro, a Federal Member of the Australian Parliament. She called for immigrants on work visas to be taught ‘social norms’ such as the use of deodorants and waiting in orderly queues. (My post title is a poor contender.)

At Independent Australia, Tess Lawrence's post ‘Gambaro goes the raw prawn‘, is biting in its satire:

I am calling on Teresa to organise a Senate Select Committee so we can really thrash out this serious issue in the first session of Parliament. In fact, I want to see the wearing of deodorant become mandatory and written into our Constitution.

And shameless in its play on words:

" You are clearly Prime Ministerial material by any measure, Dear Teresa. From henceforth, let the armpits be the electoral litmus test. You bring a whole new meaning to the hair of the dog.

Before any politician should covet the Upper House, we the People, should examine their Upper Lip.

Unless politicians pass the sniff test, they should remain on the nose of the Australian people."

The Castlemaine Independent’s satirist suggests that Politicians must wear deodorant:

" Politicians should be taught ...

2012: The Year of Nonviolence?

If 2011 was the year of the protester, 2012 may prove to be the year of nonviolence. What’s the difference? It’s as great as between yes and no. A crucial awakening that envelopes humanity’s collective struggle for justice, peace and democracy is happening; it is an awakening that clarifies the circumstances we embrace with a yes and those by which we respond with a vehement no. Like many I know, I often teeter between despair and hope–stuck in a kind of uncomfortable tension resembling Wendell Berry’s poetic instruction to “be joyful though you have considered all the facts” –grasping for some measure of sanity to make sense of all that is happening.

It is tempting to succumb to despair, what with the onslaught of major media coverage telling us all the bad news, dismissing the promising news, and ignoring the good news. Consider the challenges: the unraveling violence of the Egyptian revolution, the 5,000 killed in Syria, climate change and the instability and disasters brought by extreme weather patterns and an ill-equipped global populace with inadequate leadership, the threat of random violence and terrorist activity–Norway, Belgium, India, the US, Afghanistan, Pakistan, ...

Is the dream illegal? Part II

Hi, folks,

Here is part II of Angie Sánchez’s “Coming to America Story.”

Enjoy,

Our Coyote

Coyotes are people who smuggle immigrants into this country.  They charge about a thousand dollars per person.  Unfortunately there are some that are bad people at heart and take advantage of the people that they are smuggling. They are at times left in the middle of the desert.  Not all coyotes are the same though, some are good people and although they are violating the law they are simply helping someone get across. Many of them hold regular everyday jobs. Some movies have produced the wrong image about coyotes and all I can say is don’t believe everything you see on television!

My grandma knew people who did this and who at one point had helped her cross. We met up with them at a park.  It was a man who met up with us; he was our “contact”.  His name was Gerardo. He was a pleasant man with good manners and well spoken. He greeted us with a warm welcome. He then took us to an ice cream shop where we met the family that was going to cross ...

EB5 Visa and A Visas: What’s the difference?

The fifth preference employment based visa (EB5) was created in 1990 as a way for foreign investors to gain United States permanent residency (and eventual citizenship if desired), through an investment in a new or pre-existing American business that sees the creation of at least 10 new full-time jobs for American workers. The A visas are described by the government’s website as being for “diplomats and other government officials” traveling to the United States on the behalf of their national government. In this article, as a Cambridge Lawyer, we will take a closer look at the A-1, A-2 and EB5 Immigrant Investor visas to see how their paths to a Green Card Visa compare and contrast.

A-1 and A-2 – As per the government’s website, to qualify for A Visa, an individual must:

….be traveling to the United States on behalf of your national government to engage solely in official activities for that government.  The fact that there may be government interest or control in a given organization is not in itself the defining factor in determining if you qualify for an A visa; the particular duties or services that will be performed must be government agent in character or ...
