A professor from Harvard University along with professors from California Institute of Technology created an artificial jellyfish. This jellyfish has been created from cells from the heart of rat. The rat heart muscle combined with silicone rubber was re-engineered altogether to grow a Medusoid.
According to the scientists, this is an experiment which might make possible to create human heart valves or pacemakers from the patient’s own cells. This would decrease the chances for the body to reject its own cells compared to metal pacemakers and other external objects. Such valves would be biocompatible and might even have a larger lifespan.
