Yahoo is trying to make it easier for small businesses to take their operations online.
This week, Yahoo unveiled Yahoo Stores, the next generation of the company’s e-commerce platform, which is designed to help anyone start and grow a business online.
“For most retailers, an online store is crucial, but getting it started is an arduous task that can take weeks,” Amit Kumar, head of Yahoo Small Business, wrote on the company’s blog. “With Yahoo Stores, you can have an online store up and running and accepting orders in less than a couple of minutes.”
The new platform includes options for accepting credit cards, beefed up search engine optimization (SEO), new website design tools and mobile management options.
To help businesses build and design their websites, the new Yahoo Stores provides access to Themes tools. These tools feature new online storefront designs, including color and style guides. [10 Things to Look for in an E-Commerce Solution ]
After they’ve been built, the Themes websites automatically respond and adapt to the device they’re being viewed on, including mobile phones, tablets and desktop computers. Additionally, new editing options make it simpler for online business owners to update their websites.
“You don’t need to be technical or know HTML to make easyedits,” Kumar wrote.
Yahoo Stores’ also feature new SEO capabilities to help make sure customers can find the business when they come looking.
“Yahoo Stores provides automatic SEO, so from day one, your store will have the same serving technology used on Yahoo.com, including relevant keywords in your website URLs, concise descriptions of your website’s content and more,” Kumar wrote.
To help companies make sales, the new Yahoo stores give online businesses a payment processing option that is automatically Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant, ensuring that each transaction is secure.
