Yep, it’s December. I know that living in Chicago most of my life should make me immune to winter weather. I mean, come on tough guy, quit the complaining already. You live in a place that freezes over for six months out of the year, deal with it. The only thing that gets me through the winter is basketball, hockey, and the spring. I may live here, and I may internalize my complaints, but deep down below this grizzly beard lies a baby face searching for sunshine.

Well today I’ve got Big Bertha on my mind and I’m not talking about the chick that used to beat you up in grade school. I’m talking about Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) Callaway Golf (ELY – Snapshot Report). Callaway Golf Company, together with its subsidiaries, designs, manufactures, and sells golf clubs and balls. It offers drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putters. The company also designs and sells golf accessories, such as packaged sets, golf bags, golf gloves, golf footwear, golf apparel, travel gear, headwear, towels, umbrellas, eyewear, and other accessories under the Callaway Golf, Odyssey, and Strata brand names.

I’m not sure if a Big Bertha is going to be the driver for you but what I do know is analysts have been smashing their earnings estimates 300 yards down the middle of the fairway. Looking at the current year, six analysts have increased their earnings estimates, pushing our Zacks Consensus Estimate up from 6 cents to 14 cents per share. The bullish revisions along with some fantastic earnings surprises over the course of the last year are a big reason for the Zacks Rank.

Shares of ELY has come on strong since the end of September. With shares down near $8, buyers jumped in, taking ELY all the way up to a fresh 52-week high at $10.30. The recent volatility over the last couple of days hasn’t bothered ELY any. The commodity channel index (CCI) sits at 52.26, still in bullish territory over the zero line but not too overbought. The 21-day moving average hovers just below the current price action at $9.95.
