2016 has proven to be an exceptionally testy time for financial stocks. This is especially true in the US markets where major banking institutions have reported sharp losses for the year-to-date. JP Morgan Chase & Co (JPM) is one such financial institution that has come under heavy pressures of late. If we look at the short-term indicators such as the 7-day average directional indicator, the 8-day moving average high load channel, the 20-day moving average versus price, and the 20-50 day Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) Oscillator, everything points to a sell.

I have discussed this stock ad nauseam with fellow financial analysts and the consensus opinion is that the short-term indicators average indicates a strong sell. If we move over to the medium-term, there is less bearishness about the stock, but it is still weighted towards a sell. Much the same is true over the long-term. At its current price of $56.38, the overall average rating for JP Morgan Chase & Co is a sell (64%), and the stock has a support level of $58.16, a resistance level of $59.08 and a pivot point around $58.62. This is apparent in the technical charts that are pasted below. Notice the strong downward pressures on the price of the stock since early November 2015 when the stock was trading around $68.70, to its current level of $56.36 (23 February 2016).

Is also interesting to highlight the ‘snapshot opinion’ of fellow investors that have included JP Morgan Chase & Co in their financial portfolios. As can be seen from the graphic below, opinions change wildly from day-to-day, but the consensus is largely negative.
