Despite being a state that run its affairs in keeping with a communist ideology, China has done amazingly well to defy the regular norms of the international system in a very short span of time.

With a GDP growth rate sustained at 10 and ruling Wall Street over the past decade, China has indeed left the world in sheer awe  with the way its GDP is spiking at the moment and it wouldn’t be surprising if it becomes an even bigger player on Wall Street than it already is.

Despite a wide array of internal challenges that always seems to pose a threat on the nation’s long-term sustainability as a super-power, President Xi Jinping has managed to take China one step further at every level which is quite an amazing feat. According to a recent survey conducted in China, 66% of the country’s population say that corrupt officials occupying key positions in governmental and non-governmental organizations are the biggest issue of the state and if the trend persists, could potentially come back and haunt the nation as a whole. However, 44% of the population believes that this problem will be overcome in the coming five years. Over the past few years, China has strived to provide an inclusive political and economic system which is crucial for a state that aspires to be at the pinnacle of greatness.

However, there are a lot of issues that the country faces right now; issues that so far have not attracted necessary global criticism but issues that will harm the country’s growth significantly if they are only swept under the carpet rather than addressed.

China: Pollution as a main concern

There are clear cut signs which show that China’s remarkable economic expansion has had some negative side effects. The country has paid a dear price for all that achieved in the shape of environmental issues. Many are concerned about the percentage of CFC chloroform carbon emissions due to industrial activities, disposal of industrial waste and other food shortage issues.
